Woman accused of involvement in Jackson triple homicide denied bond again
Investigators say robbery scheme turned into murder of toddler, mother, and aunt
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A robbery scheme that turned into murder. That’s how Jackson police describe the killings of a two-year-old, his mother, and her sister.
It happened in June on Queen Alexandria Lane in West Jackson.
The victims are 2-year-old Camari Givens, his mother, 25-year-old Keyana Weathersby, and her sister, 30-year-old Erica Weathersby.
Four charged, one denied bond again
Four people have been charged, including Mikala Young. She was arrested in June and is charged with three counts of capital murder, burglary and armed robbery.
Young, 26, went before a judge Tuesday, where she was denied bond for a second time. Hinds County Court Judge Johnnie McDaniels said Young is a “clear and present danger to the community.”
Investigators detail alleged motive
Police say the four suspects charged went to the house to rob the homeowner, who has been identified as the two-year-old’s father, Cadelmon Givens.
One of the male suspects was childhood friends with Givens, according to police.
On Tuesday, investigators said the initial plan was for the suspects to buy marijuana from Givens.
While on the witness stand, JPD Detective Terrence Jackson testified the suspects found out Givens recently won a lot of money and sold marijuana.
As a result, he said the plan then changed to robbing Givens, looking to steal his money and marijuana.
According to Jackson police, one of the suspects called and told Givens he was outside.
When Givens came out, Cornelius Carter and Devone Modacure began shooting at him.
Police say Givens ran and hid behind a neighbor’s house.
Detective Jackson accuses Cornelius Carter and Modacure of then going inside the home and shooting and killing the three victims, who were each shot multiple times.
Jackson told the judge that the toddler was shot and killed in the bedroom.
Keyana was shot in the living room.
Erica was in the living room and then ran to the bathroom, where she was shot.
Investigators say Young and Jordan Carter remained in the car, and that Young drove off and left the scene once she heard the gunshots.
In court, it was revealed the suspects stole roughly two pounds of marijuana, which they split up among themselves.
According to investigators, Young knew they were going to the house to commit robbery.
Young denies involvement
Young denies killing or robbing anyone. Not long after being denied bond, she spoke to reporters as she walked handcuffed and shackled.
“I’m innocent, I ain’t kill nobody,” Young said. “I ain’t kill nobody. They tried to kill me and my kids, so I stayed there, but I didn’t kill nobody.”
Young identified who she says are the alleged killers.

Young did not clarify who “Bunny” is.
Other suspects, relationship to case
In court, it was revealed that Young drove the three other suspects to the home on Queen Alexandria Lane.
Those suspects are Jordan Carter and Cornelius Carter, who are not related, and Devone Modacure.
Young and Cornelius Carter were in a relationship, according to police.
After fleeing the scene, Young allegedly dropped off Jordan Carter near his home.
She then went to stay the night with Cornelius Carter, her boyfriend.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Young’s attorney told the judge the 26-year-old thought she was taking the male suspects to the house strictly to buy marijuana, and she did not know anything about the planned robbery.
The defense also argues Young did not leave the scene sooner because she was being held against her will.
Weapon investigation
At this time, none of the suspects charged in the killing are believed to have stolen that weapon.
Young’s case will now be presented to a Hinds County grand jury, which will determine if there is enough evidence to take her to trial.
