Film preservation group Film is Fabulous! announced it has unearthed a complete 35mm film of the Fab Four\u2019s March 19, 1964 performance at\u00a0BBC\u2019s Television Theatre\u00a0<\/a>in London, where they performed \u201cCan\u2019t Buy Me Love\u201d and \u201cYou Can\u2019t Do That\u201d one day before they were released on a single.<\/p>\n

The footage \u2014 which captures four grainy takes of \u201cCan\u2019t Buy Me Love\u201d and two of \u201cYou Can\u2019t Do That,\u201d banter and bloopers included \u2014 was given to the group by the family of a deceased former industry professional.<\/p>\n

According to Film Is Fabulous!, the complete film was provided by the family of a deceased former industry professional who had preserved the footage for decades. The discovery is especially significant because the BBC routinely erased and reused videotapes during the 1960s, resulting in the loss of countless historic television broadcasts. Among the newly recovered moments is a humorous scene in which John Lennon pulls a funny face after a television camera moves in for a close-up during the second take of “You Can’t Do That.” The footage also shows the band joking with one another and dancing between takes while waiting to perform.<\/p>\n

Although The Beatles had previously appeared on Top of the Pops<\/em>, this marked their only live studio appearance on the legendary music program, making the recovered film an especially valuable addition to the band’s extensive legacy.<\/p>\n
