Mother of Five Dies After Fatal Stabbing in Del Rio; Three Women Charged with Murder
A Texas community is mourning the death of 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña, a mother of five, who died after a fatal stabbing in Del Rio. Three women have since been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the case.
According to the Del Rio Police Department, the incident occurred Thursday afternoon in the 800 block of East 10th Street, near a busy area close to a Sonic Drive-In restaurant. Authorities were called to Val Verde Regional Medical Center at approximately 2:10 p.m. after receiving reports that a woman had arrived with multiple stab wounds.
Due to the severity of her injuries, Peña was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday.
Police have identified the three suspects as Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21. All three women were arrested Thursday afternoon without incident and booked into the GEO Correctional Facility, where they remain pending magistration.
Investigators say surveillance footage, physical evidence, and witness interviews played a key role in identifying the suspects and advancing the investigation.
Authorities have not released a possible motive for the stabbing, and detectives say the investigation remains active. Police also noted that additional charges could be filed as more information becomes available.
The tragic death of Peña, who leaves behind five children, has deeply impacted the local community and sparked an outpouring of condolences on social media. Friends, family members, and community supporters have shared tributes in her memory while calling for justice.
